How long does a worktop repair Last?

How long our worktop repair will last is subjective to how your worktops are used and the material of the worktop. Repairs to composite and natural stone surfaces should last the lifetime of the worktop.

On average, a laminate repair should last around 10 years in high-use areas, in lower-use areas you should be looking at 15 years plus. If the repair area has little to no use the repair should last a lifetime and beyond. Not bad when you consider most worktops last 10-15 years, in reality, a worktop repair will last as long as the average usable life of a worktop.

Disclaimer

The above information applies to worktop repairs we carry out, we are not in a position to give the life expectancy of repairs other companies carry out.

We have made good worktop repairs other companies have carried out in the past which have only lasted a couple of years at best. Common faults to look out for are technicians using wax fillers and super glue as base fillers.

Can chips be repaired?

Laminate chips are relatively easy and fillers adhere well, but stones are much harder and require epoxies and special techniques to avoid condensation which hinders the bonding. Wood can be easily filled with good quality wood filler and dyed to the appropriate colouring to achieve invisible results. DIY kits can be used but they can attract dirt and do not look particularly good compared to a professional repair. We are able to repair all kitchen surface chips.

Can a water-damaged worktop be repaired?

Water damage comes in 2 forms, Surface damage and below-surface damage, both can be repaired but a different mode of repair is required for each.

Surface water damage is often very shallow and requires minimal filler if any at all, simply adding a bit of colour or polishing will improve the area.

Below surface damage is more common on laminate and wooden countertops and is much more serious. It requires the removal of all rotten wood or chipboard, piecing sections back in and reinforcing before bonding and filling.
